Question by Dumpy Poofus: Chili Cook Off!?
I am planning on holding a chili cook off at my condo sometime this fall.

For some reason my condo has like 16 outlets in the kitchen so everyone can bring their own crock pot.

2 things:

1. Anyone have a creative name for a chili cook off?

2. Anyone have any recipes I can snag? I have never made chili.

My younger brother who is 18 is pretty goofy, and said that he is gonna make a gross one with gummy bears and other oddities in it. Should I tell anyone else, or just let them try it?

Best answer:

Answer by carolinatinpan
I would have to think about a name but i made up my own chili recipe. It’s called “Rib eye chili” The ingredients are fresh red and green tomato’s, black beans, northern beans, and red beans,a large can of tomato sauce, one whole clove of cleaned and smashed garlic, jalapeno sliced with seeds removed if you want mild, fresh chopped cilantro, cumin(lots) chili powder, white and red onions, ground chuck beef.combine ingredients in a large crock pot allow to simmer for several hours at least.salt and pepper to taste. Then stir in the fresh juice of one lime . On a grill cook at least two rib eye steaks this also has a special recipe. Make a marinade from 1/4 cup olive oil, minced garlic,1/4 cup of soy sauce, onion salt. pepper to taste, and a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce. tenderize the steaks .small end of a glass coke bottle works great. marinate for 20 to 30 minutes. add dry oak chips to your coals as you add the steaks cover grill and allow steaks to smoke 3 minutes per side for rare.but cook to preference. The best grill i ever owned is an Aussie walkabout. its better than my Weber which i love. Remove the steaks cut into bite size chunks and add to the top of your chili when served. best served right off the grill. The result will be a chili that is amazing to look at and awesome to taste .This in an award winner already. a name could be fighting for second place chili cookoff.

Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

Spices are one of the commonly discussed topics in cooking school because of their significance in the creation of delicious fares. Not only do they provide the flavor, they also incorporate the needed color and nutritional value to make dishes a complete gastronomical experience. To save you some time, this post will be tackling a portion of the theme. That way, you will have some understanding of what it takes to make authentic Asian meals, prior to getting into a classroom and learning how to cook them.

Chili peppers are among the most common spices Koreans apply to make their famous delicacies like kimchi. It is also applied by Indians in their signature spicy dishes as well as by Chinese and Bhutanese. In the Philippines, the pepper leaves are typically used for the same purpose as the fruit. And then there’s cinnamon, which was originally from Sri Lanka. They are commonly made from the bark of Cinnamomum trees and are applied to capture that sweet, savoury flavor in Asian fares and desserts. Curry leaves, meanwhile, are highly valued seasonings in both Indian and Sri Lankan cooking and are in fact reliable indicators of such cuisines. They can be used as either dry or fresh and often times, they give off this delicious, somewhat intense nutty aroma. Lemongrass is one of the key ingredients in Thai cooking and is characterized by a zesty, citrus like sourness and smell. While the white cumin is roasted and ground so that it can be utilized as curry, stew or soup paste. Lastly, there’s turmeric which is a staple ingredient in a lot of Persian, Thai and Indian dishes. If you are aware of how ginger contributes to a dish’ taste, which is its close relative, you’d definitely appreciate what turmeric adds to the mix.

All of those aforementioned can be bought in processed packets within American markets and used with ease during cooking school demonstration. But there are a few more unique and essential Asian spices that you should need to know to make every Asian dish you’d like to prepare complete. There’s the star anise, which is frequently applied by the Chinese to give their food that licorice taste, on top of golden needles which are harvested from the tiger plant.

Asia is one of the known spice hubs of the world, to which it attributes its assorted meal offerings. But given that it is the biggest continent in the world, one must put a lot of effort into knowing what spices are typically used in their cuisines to master the way they prepare meals.

Cooking school usually offers a number of culinary learning opportunities for different kinds of dishes. But unless you go for the regular programs which cost thousands of dollars, you can never really get a comprehensive exposure to the variety of meals certain countries serve. Which is why it is important that you establish your preference first before your enroll in a class. That way, you get exactly what you want out of the experience with the budget you set aside.

Everyone wants to improve their cooking skills these days. So if you are looking for ways to make your meals better, tastier and more interesting, read on for some top cooking tips.

If you want to barbecue, make sure you get your grill set up properly beforehand. Light your coals about 30 minutes before you start cooking as it takes this long for the coals to be ready. The perfect time to start grilling is when the coals are medium heat and covered with ash.

If you are making salsa in advance and don’t expect it to be eaten immediately, make sure you rinse and dry the raw onions off well. This will help to remove the sulfurous gas that all raw onions emit, which will otherwise ruin your salsa.

Experimenting with spices and using different sauces is one great way to change the taste of your favorite foods. Combining old favorites with new tasting sauces can create new classics! And new ingredients and spices can easily be found in ethnic stores.

Never add wine into your dish unless you have tasted it beforehand and know that it will complement the favors of the dish you are creating. Adding an unfamiliar wine is one fast way to ruin your dish!

How many people do you know who have age old spices and herbs in their cupboard? Spices and herbs do not last forever! Sure they need to be stored somewhere cool and dark to preserve their flavor but if you’ve had them for over a year, their flavor will have vanished. Throw them out and buy new ones!

If you have a turkey, remember to keep the leftovers. They can be added to pies, salads or sandwiches and make a very tasty, low fat snack! If you don’t want to use them right away, freeze them. They freeze very well!

If you want tasty soups and stews, make your own stock! Simply save the bones of a roast chicken dinner, add a few vegetables, bay leaves and slow simmer for several hours! The stock is delicious and can be used immediately. Freeze the excess in ice cube trays so that it will be in convenient portions when you next need it.

If you need to cook for a large number of people, or are faced with cooking the Thanksgiving dinner for the in-laws, don’t stress. Prepare as much as you can in advance. Get all the non-refrigerated ingredients out the cupboards. Make sure you’ve got all the baking tins, trays, pans etc that you will need and recheck your timings so that you will be all ready to go on the day itself.

Always let roast meats and poultry rest for a while before putting them on the table to be carved. The time could be anything up to half an hour for a turkey. Resting allows the meat to “relax” and enables the juices to flow back into the meat, making it juicier and tastier than un-rested meat.

When cooking, remember not everyone likes spicy food! Try cooking with the minimum of hot spices and then leave them on the table for people to add their own according to taste. This is especially true for salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic powder and chilies.

Unless you are a vegetarian, use chicken stock to cook your vegetables. This will make the dish more tasty and add valuable nutrients too! It makes mashed potato taste wonderful! You can easily make your own chicken stock, but it is easy to find in your local store if you don’t want to.

Be sure to follow these top tips and you will soon have your friends and family raving about your food!

One of the all-time classics is Chili. It’s a perennial All-Star as far as quality recipes go. It is constantly managing to draw huge crowds because the scrumptious dish gets top billing in cook-offs. Even though chili could be consumed any time of the season, it is best offered during the winter season, once the outdoors is, well, chilly (excuse the pun). Chili is typically made with beef, tomatoes, beans along with a selection of seasonings. Many people prefer to top their chili with cheese, sour cream and green onions or throw in a few Jalape
